The Caddie’s Bar

The book of wagers.

The House keeps a book. Every bet of record on the grounds — the friendlies, the presses, the Calcutta heists, and the ones too audacious to honour — entered so memory need not be trusted to the men who made them.

The House keeps a book. Every wager of record upon these grounds — open, settled, disputed, or too audacious to honour — is entered here, that memory may not be trusted to the men who made the bets.

A note from the House. All wagers are entered as reported and embellished only as necessary. Presses are honoured; concessions to avoid presses are noted, and named. The Book does not adjudicate; it merely remembers, which the parties find far more inconvenient.
